Wireless Network (WiFi) Configuration Guide
Welcome to Oklahoma City University's wireless network! The university offers three wireless network options: OCUsecure (most secure, recommended for all faculty, staff, and students), OCUunsecure (for devices that don't support WPA2 Enterprise), and OCUguest (for university visitors).
Option 1: OCUsecure (Preferred)
✓ Recommended for: All faculty, staff, and students - offers the most secure connectivity using WPA2 Enterprise security
Automatic Connection
Most modern operating systems (Windows, Mac OS, iOS, Android, etc.) support WPA2 Enterprise and will automatically connect. Simply:
- Select OCUsecure from your device's available networks
- Enter your OCU network username and password when prompted - Username is everything before @ symbol in OCU email.
- Your device should connect automatically
Manual Configuration
If your device does not automatically connect, you can manually configure the connection using the following settings:
Setting
Value
Security Type
WPA2 Enterprise (select WPA2 if the enterprise version is not specifically offered)
Encryption Type
AES
Authentication Method
Protected EAP (or simply PEAP)
PEAP Settings
• Do not validate server certificates
• Set authentication method to "EAP-MSCHAP v2"
Username
Your OCU network username (e.g., "jdoe")
Password
Your OCU network password
Domain (if prompted)
OKCU.EDU
Note: If neither method works, your device likely does not support WPA2 Enterprise security. Use OCUunsecure instead (see Option 2 below).
Option 2: OCUunsecure
✓ Best for: Devices that do not support WPA2 Enterprise (gaming consoles, smart TVs, IoT devices, older devices)
Security Notice: While this is a secure wireless network, it is less secure than OCUsecure. Use OCUsecure whenever possible.
Device Registration Steps
-
Find your device's MAC address
The MAC address (also called Hardware Address, Physical Address, or Network Interface Card Address) is a unique identifier made up of 12 characters (numbers and letters) in the format xx-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx or xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx. You only need the 12 characters, not the hyphens or colons. Consult your device's user manual to locate this address.
-
Go to the registration site
Visit https://cppm.okcu.edu/guest
-
Login with your OCU network credentials
- Click Create Device in the left navigation pane
-
Enter the MAC address from step 1
-
Read and approve the Terms of Use
- Click Create MAC
-
Connect your device to the OCUunsecure network - no additional configuration needed
Important: After 240 days (approximately 8 months), your device will need to be re-registered.
Option 3: OCUguest
✓ Best for: University guests and visitors only - NOT intended for faculty, staff, or students
Important: Faculty, staff, and students should use OCUsecure or OCUunsecure instead. The guest network provides limited access and is less secure.
Connection Steps
- Select OCUguest from your device's available networks
- A browser window should automatically open to the OCU Guest login screen (if not, manually open a browser)
- Read the terms of use
- Click the Login button to accept the terms
- Your device should now have access to the OCUguest network
Network Limitations
The guest network provides limited Internet access to basic applications such as web browsers and email clients. Only the following protocols are available:
Protocol
Port
Description
HTTP
80
HyperText Transfer Protocol (web browsing)
HTTPS
443
HTTP over SSL (secure web browsing)
IMAPS
993
Internet Message Access Protocol over SSL (retrieving email)
POP3S
995
Post Office Protocol 3 over SSL (retrieving email)
SSMTP
465
Simple Mail Transfer Protocol over SSL (sending email)
Security Considerations
Wireless networks broadcast radio signals to all recipients in the local area, making it easy for third parties to intercept network traffic. Wireless users should make every effort to keep their communications secure.
Warning: Do not relay any personal information over the unsecured guest wireless network. This includes passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, or other sensitive data.
