Microsoft 365 Account: Managing your password and security information
Your OCU Microsoft 365 account is your gateway to most online university resources. Your username is your university email address. When signing in, you may be asked to verify your identity through an additional security step known as multifactor authentication (MFA). This article will guide you through managing your Microsoft 365 account, its password, and the security information used for MFA.
How Will I Initially Receive My Microsoft 365 Username and Password?
Student Accounts
When you are first admitted to the university, you will receive an email to your personal email address providing your Microsoft 365 account's username and an "activation" link to set your password.
Employee Accounts
When you are hired by the university, you will receive an email to your personal email address providing your Microsoft 365 account's username and an "activation" link to set your password.
Important: Check your personal email (not your university email) for your initial account setup information.
Need to Identify Your Initial Password?
If you know your Microsoft 365 account username but need to identify your initial password:
- Visit https://webapps.okcu.edu/support/pss/Home/EmailPassword
- Provide your Microsoft 365 account username and your personal email address
- Check your personal email account for a message with your initial password
Note: If you have previously changed your Microsoft 365 password, this initial password will no longer work. You'll need to use the password recovery process instead.

To see an overview of your account and to manage your password and security information:

- And much more
How Do I Reset a Forgotten Password?
To reset a forgotten password, you can use your previously provided security information to verify your identity and reset your password.
- Visit https://passwordreset.microsoftonline.com
- Enter your Microsoft 365 username and the random letters (CAPTCHA) provided, then click Next
- Choose one of the verification methods you have previously set up with Microsoft 365 to recover your account. This might include:
- An alternate email address
- Texting a mobile number
- Calling a mobile number
- Answering security questions
- Using the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone
- Respond to the prompts provided for your chosen method
- You may be required to choose multiple methods to prove your identity
- Once verification is complete, click Next

Important: Make sure you have set up security information (MFA methods) before you need to recover your password. Without security information configured, password recovery may not be possible.
How Do I Change My Password?
Tip: Choose a strong password that you haven't used before. Avoid using common words, personal information, or simple patterns.
How Can I Modify My Security Information?
Follow these steps to add or modify your security information used for multifactor authentication (MFA) when signing in or changing passwords:
- Visit https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info
- Login with your Microsoft 365 username and password
- Click Add sign-in method to provide additional methods beyond those you have previously configured
- Click Change or Delete next to any existing method you wish to update
- If you wish to change your default verification method, click Change next to the "Default sign-in method" field and select a different method
Recommendation: It is recommended to only use mobile phones (not landlines) if you choose to use a phone as one of your verification methods. Mobile phones are more secure and provide more flexibility for authentication.
